Tom’s Extreme Pizzeria owner Tom Bennett said: “Kids love it, adults, everyone loves it. They take his picture and he goes to scribble them. It’s pretty cool.
Ricky isn’t the only rooster residing in downtown Ocean Springs, a few streets down we spotted Carlos, his name is a pun, painting Carl, in honor of their former town mascot , and OS for Ocean Springs.
Area businesses say the new roosters are a bittersweet reminder of the late Carl. Wild Flier Director Heather Kesby said: “We have always had a special place in our hearts for any animal. We have a store pup. He is here almost every day and it was a great pleasure for us to have the rooster in our store every day and visitors like to see something they don’t normally see on a daily basis.
Poppy’s bartender, Kristal Chapman, said, “I’ve only been working in downtown Ocean Springs for three months. So, I was here when Carl’s incident happened and it was really upsetting and heartbreaking for us, but it’s a new day, a new beginning in Ocean Springs and we’re so excited about it.
