Skate 2 servers go offline as Microsoft adds Xbox backward compatibility

0

Gamers received good news from Microsoft today: Skating 2 is now backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S. They also received bad news from EA: The servers are being shut down.

Microsoft celebrates Xbox 20th anniversary. So, as part of the celebration, the company may have made the best announcement possible, unless they add their entire proprietary catalog to Xbox Game Pass. 70 additional Xbox and Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S. Skating 2 is among them.

The celebration is short-lived, however, as Electronic Arts announced the shutdown of the game’s servers next month. In addition to Xbox 360 servers, PS3 servers are also getting dark. To be fair to EA, the game launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in January 2009.

“We are warning that on December 10, 2021, we will be deactivating the Skate 2 online servers for PlayStation and Xbox,” the company said in a statement. Tweeter on the official Skate Account. “It is not an easy decision and it is not something we take lightly.”

Stopping the server only affects the online multiplayer component of this game. Single player modes will remain active.

My opinion

Honestly, it is surprising that the servers are still in place. That being said, it still sucks for fans who want to try out the new backward compatible title on their Xbox One or new Xbox Series X. The timing of the announcement is unfortunate. I guess the fans will have to wait Skate 4 to end up going out.
