What Warcraft 4 Could Look Like

World of Warcraft is one of the most important and well-known PC games currently on the market. It has captivated gamers for hours, delivering consistent content for over 18 years. The game revolutionized the MMO genre when it launched in 2005, but the world of Azeroth didn’t start there. The story of Warcraft started in 1994 with an RTS called Warcraft: Orcs & Humans.

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans brought players to Azeroth for the very first time, and players controlled armies of humans or orcs through two separate campaigns with different endings. The game turned out to be a hit, so Blizzard released Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, develop the story of Warcraft introducing new units and the iconic characters of Gul’dan and Sargeras. Then Blizzard released Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos, which greatly expanded the story and caused waves in the gaming industry; the authoring tool has even led to the creation of DOTA and the modern MOBA genre. After receiving an extension, the story of Warcraft left the RTS genre and entered the MMO genre with World of Warcraftbut fans have been clamoring for a return to the series’ roots for years, and with Microsoft now owning Activision Blizzard, that may be a possibility.

Warcraft 4 could be somewhere between Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft

When World of Warcraft launched for the first time, it took place four years after the events of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne. By this time, Thrall’s horde had settled in Durotar and invited the Forsaken undead to join their ranks, while gnomes, dwarves, and night elves all joined the Alliance. Four years doesn’t offer much story potential, but in Azeroth it seems like a giant global crisis ends every week, so maybe a lot really happened during that time.

Setting Warcraft 4 Between Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft would allow Blizzard to significantly expand the events leading up to the start of wow. This could introduce new characters, allow players to see what old characters did, and allow them to learn more about the intricacies of the Horde and Alliance. Maybe players could help Thrall find a suitable home for the Horde, or maybe they could help the Alliance recruit more allies. They could even take a peek at what blood elves, draenei, and all the other post-launch races were up to.

A new vision of the First and Second Wars

Warcraft 2

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness are very dated by today’s standards, Blizzard doesn’t even sell them on Battle.net. Warcraft 3: Reforged let players experience the third war again, even though the game was controversial, but many players have no idea what happened in the first and second wars. While Blizzard could choose to remaster the original two games, it could also create an entirely new game set around this time.

The first two Warcraft the games were very simple in terms of story compared to Warcraft 3. While the story was present in these games, the second one greatly improving the storytelling, it was nothing compared to later titles. Make an RTS plus in the style of Warcraft 3 but set during the First or Second War would allow players to experience this pivotal period in Azeroth. Blizzard could also use this as a way to remake lore to make it more in line with World of Warcraftlike Warcraft: Orcs and Humans had two different endings although only one is considered canon.

Set during an expansion pack

One of the simplest settings that Warcraft 4 could take place as part of an extension. Each of the originals Warcraft games took place during the great wars of Azeroth, and World of Warcraft had many great wars. Battle for Azeroth gave players the fourth war, Legion and The Burning Crusade involved large-scale invasions of the Burning Legion, Wrath of the Lich King and Shadowland had Scourge invasions, and Cataclysm had the apocalypse. Players only experience a small subset of these different conflicts, so having Warcraft 4 taking place during these times would help spread the threat and give players a full picture of events.

It is not clear if another Warcraft game will never be a possibility, because World of Warcraft continues to receive content, but fans can dream. Blizzard said it is planning substantial content for WarcraftMicrosoft has made some great RTS games, and fans have been crying out for a fourth title for a while, so maybe it’s finally time for Blizzard to make one.
